The auto updater now downloads the required updater files if they don’t exist – no more self-extracting archives, just a single, portable download. For those of you who don’t want to update automatically, you can rename the executable – it will then prevent any further checks until it is renamed back. This is now conveyed in the user interface (where the update link is normally).

The short version: moved to a UK server and added download mirrors.

The long version: After publishing the website, I realized just how slow the American host, Cirtex Hosting, was when accessing the website from the UK. Once I received the domain expiry notice, I decided to move hosts. When creating a website for a friend, I had already researched UK web host providers and settled on VidaHost – the price was better than Cirtex (even after currency conversion) and the site ran faster – plus the cPanel for the site has more modules and options available. Because of this, StormPooperSmith has been moved over and is now running at a bearable speed.

In a similar vein, I’ve now added more download mirrors for OEM Brander. The two web mirrors are Dropbox (if you don’t have an account but want one, that link will give you and I an extra 250mb each) and Box.net. Dropbox mirror links directly to the file, the Box.net mirror points to a landing page with a download link (no countdowns or anything annoying like that).

All future downloads will be hosted on the same mirrors, plus FileForum if they ever get around to approving my Author account. Let me know if you have any issues with the any of the mirrors or suggestions for more.

But who cares that nobody cares? Nobody, because they’re not reading this.

If you are actually reading this, then well done, you are one of the enlightened few. You are one of the select elite who gets to see a re-coloured dancing Mega Man sprite (the original being from here), plus my first public release, OEM Brander.

If you check back, subscribe to the RSS feed, or follow me on Twitter, you’ll be the first to know when there’s new stuff and updates to existing stuff.

Or you could just watch the dancing re-skinned Mega Man. I wouldn’t blame you, it is hypnotic…

OEM Brander is free portable application designed to allow you to edit OEM branding on a Windows PC. When you buy a PC from a manufacturer, they will usually have the Make, Model and Support information in the Systems Property window, as well as a company logo. OEM Brander enables you to edit this information and to use your own logo, which will be automatically resized and scaled to fit.

Unlike most OEM customization tools, OEM Brander supports editing this information on Windows XP to Windows 7 (and future versions if the process does not change). It also allows you to change the Performance Index Logo and the Media Centre Logo, as well as the Registered Owner and Registered Organisation.

OEM Brander requires .NET 3.5 Framework or newer and can be run as a portable application (no installation required). It also requires Administrator privileges, which are automatically requested if running in Vista or above. It is designed to work with Windows XP, XP Media Center, Server 2003, Vista, Server 2008 and Windows 7. It was tested on XP Professional and Windows 7.
